Music is one of the best ways to enjoy life and express yourself. But sometimes, you may not have access to the internet or want to save your data plan. That's why downloading music onto your iPhone is a great idea. It allows you to listen to your favorite songs anytime and anywhere, even when you're offline.

There are several ways to download music on your iPhone, depending on where you get your music from and how much storage space you have. In this article, we'll show you how to download music from Apple Music, other streaming services, and your computer.

Download Music from Apple Music

If you have a paid subscription to Apple Music, you can download songs, albums, playlists, and videos from the service to your iPhone. You can then play them offline without using any data or Wi-Fi. However, you'll only have access to those songs as long as you're subscribed to Apple Music.

Add music from Apple Music to your library

To download music from Apple Music, you first need to add it to your library. Here's how:

  • Open the Apple Music app on your iPhone.

  • Find the music you want to download, either in your library or by searching for it.

  • Touch and hold a song, album, playlist, or video, then tap Add to Library.

  • When viewing the contents of an album or playlist, tap Add near the top of the screen to add the whole album or playlist, or tap More, then tap Add to Library to add individual songs.

  • On the Now Playing screen, tap More, then tap Add to Library.

To delete music from your library, touch and hold the song, album, playlist, or video, then tap Delete from Library.

Music you add to your iPhone is also added to other devices if you're signed in to the iTunes Store and App Store using the same Apple ID and have Sync Library turned on (go to Settings > Music, then turn on Sync Library).

Download music from Apple Music to your iPhone

After you've added music to your library, you can download it to your iPhone so you can play it offline. Here's how:

  • Touch and hold the music you've added to your library, then tap Download.

  • After you've added a playlist or album, you can also tap Download at the top of the screen.

  • The song should begin downloading automatically. However, if the plus sign is replaced with a cloud icon that doesn't go away, tap the cloud icon. This will trigger the download.

  • To see the download progress, on the Library screen, tap Downloaded Music, then tap Downloading.

Note: If the music you're downloading is available in Dolby Atmos, the Dolby button appears next to the item, and you can download it either in Dolby Atmos or in stereo. To change the download quality, go to Settings > Music > Audio Quality, then choose a different option for Downloaded Music.

Manage storage space and cellular data options for Apple Music

If you have a lot of downloaded music on your iPhone, you may want to free up some storage space. You can do this by deleting music you don't listen to often, or by using the Optimize Storage feature. Here's how:

  • Go to Settings > Music > Optimize Storage.

  • Turn on Optimize Storage.

  • Select a minimum amount of storage space that you want to keep for music. The app will automatically remove music that you haven't played in a while when your iPhone is low on space.

If you want to save your cellular data when downloading music from Apple Music, you can do this by turning off Cellular Data for the app. Here's how:

  • Go to Settings > Cellular or Settings > Mobile Data.

  • Scroll down and find Music, then turn off the switch next to it.

  • This will prevent the app from using cellular data to stream or download music. You'll only be able to use Wi-Fi for these actions.

Download Music from Other Streaming Services

If you use other streaming services besides Apple Music, such as Spotify or Tidal, you can also download music from them to your iPhone. However, the process may vary depending on the app and the subscription plan you have. Here are some general steps for downloading music from other streaming services:

Download music from Spotify

If you have a Spotify Premium subscription, you can download songs, albums, playlists, and podcasts from Spotify to your iPhone. You can then listen to them offline without using any data or Wi-Fi. However, you'll only have access to those songs as long as you're subscribed to Spotify Premium.

  • Open the Spotify app on your iPhone.

  • Find the music you want to download, either in your library or by searching for it.

  • Tap the Download switch at the top of the screen. If it's a playlist or podcast, you can also tap More, then tap Download Playlist or Download Podcast.

  • The music should begin downloading automatically. You can see the download progress by tapping Your Library, then tapping Downloads.

  • To delete downloaded music from your iPhone, tap Your Library, then tap Edit. Tap the red circle next to the music you want to delete, then tap Delete.

Note: To change the download quality or manage storage space and cellular data options for Spotify, go to Home > Settings > Music Quality or Home > Settings > Data Saver.

Download music from Tidal

If you have a Tidal subscription, you can download songs, albums, playlists, and videos from Tidal to your iPhone. You can then listen to them offline without using any data or Wi-Fi. However, you'll only have access to those songs as long as you're subscribed to Tidal.

  • Open the Tidal app on your iPhone.

  • Find the music you want to download, either in your library or by searching for it.

  • Tap the More Options icon (three dots) next to the music you want to download, then tap Add To My Collection.

  • Tap the Offline Mode switch at the top of the screen. This will start downloading all the music in your collection.

To delete downloaded music from your iPhone, tap My Collection, then tap Edit. Tap the red circle next to the music you want to delete, then tap Delete From Offline Content.
